Homemade Egg McMuffins

These Homemade Egg McMuffins are perfect for a McDonald’s craving!

They’re lightened up for a guilt-free easy breakfast.

This Egg McMuffin is only 4 points while the original McDonald’s one is 8 points.

Homemade Egg McMuffin’s will also great for meal prep.

The Ingredients

English Muffins: I bought Thomas’ light multi grain English muffins. They taste great and they’re only 2 points each.

Canadian Bacon: This lean Canadian bacon is similar to ham. The Canadian bacon comes from the loin while ham comes from the hind legs.

I only used one slice of Canadian bacon so it was 0 points.

Egg: I used a fresh cracked egg just like McDonald’s uses.

Cheese: McDonald’s uses American cheese but I used Sargento ultra thin cheddar cheese slices. I couldn’t find the 2% American cheese slices and I didn’t want to use fat free American cheese.

The Cost

Not only will you save 4 points by making Egg McMuffins at home, you’ll also save money.

The Egg McMuffin costs an average of $4.12 nationwide. To buy six Egg McMuffins it would cost $24.72.

Now I’ll break down the cost to make your own Egg McMuffins:

  • English Muffins – $3.00 (for six)
  • Eggs – $2.59 (for 12 eggs)
  • Canadian bacon – $3.49 (20 slices)
  • Sargento ultra thin cheddar cheese slices – $3.50 (20 slices)

I spent $12.58 to make six Egg McMuffins at home. I still had leftovers of all of the ingredients except for the English muffins.

How to Make Homemade Egg McMuffins

I sprayed an 8 oz. oven safe ramekin with nonstick cooking spray. Then I added the egg and cracked the yolk.

Bake the egg at 350 degrees F. for 12-15 minutes, or until the egg is cooked through.

Once the egg was done baking I toasted the English muffin.

Next, I assembled the sandwich. I placed a slice of cheese on the bottom piece of the English muffin followed by the egg, then a slice of Canadian bacon.

Place the top of the English muffin on the sandwich and enjoy!

Meal Prep Tips

To make multiple Egg McMuffins at once I would use multiple ramekin bowls to make multiple eggs at once.

Assemble the sandwich like you normally would then wrap it in parchment paper and seal it in a baggie.

To heat up the Egg McMuffin simply wrap it in paper towel and microwave for 30-45 seconds.
