Creamy Cheesy Spinach Dip

This Creamy Cheesy Spinach Dip is rich in flavor but lighter in calories.

One of the best things about this spinach dip is its versatility. It can be served with a variety of dippers, making it easy to cater to different tastes and dietary preferences.

Whether you choose to pair it with a platter of fresh vegetables, whole-grain crackers, or baked tortilla chips, this dip is sure to be a hit.

The Ingredients

Spinach: I bought frozen chopped spinach for this recipe. You want to thaw the spinach and drain any excess water before using it. Spinach is packed with vitamins and minerals, making it a nutritious base for the dip.

Reduced-Fat Cream Cheese: This ingredient is key to achieving a creamy texture without adding too many calories. Reduced fat cream cheese maintains the richness you expect from a spinach dip while keeping it lighter.

Part-Skim Mozzarella Cheese: Adding a cheesy touch, part-skim mozzarella contributes to the dip’s gooey, melty appeal. Using part-skim helps reduce the fat content without sacrificing the essential cheesy flavor.

Fat-Free Sour Cream: Instead of using mayonnaise I used fat-free sour cream to lighten it up. One cup of fat-free sour cream is only 5 points whereas one cup of mayonnaise is 55 points. That’s a huge difference!

Parmesan Cheese: This adds nuttiness and depth of flavor to the spinach dip.

Garlic: Fresh minced garlic offers a robust punch of flavor, enhancing the overall taste of the dip. Using a garlic press makes it easy to mince fresh garlic. It tastes so much better than the stuff in a jar.

Seasonings: Onion powder and salt help to bring all of the flavors together.

How to Make Creamy Cheesy Spinach Dip

Thaw the spinach and drain any excess water.

Add the reduced-fat cream cheese, fat-free sour cream, part-skim mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, spinach, minced garlic, salt, and onion powder to a medium mixing bowl.

Stir the ingredients together until well combined.

Spoon the mixture into an oven safe dish. (If you’re preparing it ahead of time you can cover it with saran wrap and place it in the fridge until you’re ready to bake it.)

Bake at 350 degrees F for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is bubbly.

Serving Suggestions

Bread Bowl: Hollow out a round loaf of whole-grain bread and fill it with the spinach dip. This not only provides a charming and rustic look but also doubles as an edible container.

The pieces of bread you scoop out can be used for dipping, creating a cohesive and appealing display.

Veggie Platter: Complement the creamy texture of the dip with a colorful array of fresh vegetables. Think carrot sticks, bell pepper slices, cucumber rounds, and cherry tomatoes.

The vibrant colors will make your appetizer visually appealing, and the fresh vegetables add an extra layer of nutrition and crunch.

Crackers and Chips: For a satisfying crunch, serve the spinach dip with whole-grain crackers or baked tortilla chips.

These options are perfect for those who prefer a heartier dipper. You can also consider using pita chips or whole-wheat pita bread, which pairs exceptionally well with the creamy dip.

Cheese Board Addition: Make your cheese board even more enticing by adding a bowl of spinach dip.

Surround it with an assortment of cheeses, cured meats, and fruits like grapes and apple slices. This creates a diverse spread that caters to various tastes and adds an extra layer of sophistication to your presentation.

Mini Phyllo Cups: For a bite-sized, elegant option, spoon the spinach dip into pre-made mini phyllo cups. These crispy cups are perfect for individual servings and add a delightful crunch to each bite.

They’re an excellent choice for a more formal gathering where guests may appreciate a neat, single-serving appetizer.

Stuffed Mushrooms: Hollow out large mushroom caps and fill them with the spinach dip. Bake until the mushrooms are tender and the dip is bubbly.

This option combines the earthy flavor of mushrooms with the creamy dip, creating a unique and delicious appetizer.
