Sweet Potato Fries with Cinnamon Dip

Sweet potato fries are a delicious alternative to traditional fries, offering a nutritious twist with their vibrant color and natural sweetness.

Using an air fryer instead of frying in oil gives you a side dish that’s both indulgent and on track with your wellness goals.

The Benefits of Using an Air Fryer

Air fryers have revolutionized the way we prepare fried foods, offering a healthier alternative without sacrificing taste.

For those on Weight Watchers, this kitchen gadget is a game-changer. By using significantly less oil than traditional frying methods, air fryers help cut down on unnecessary calories and fats.

This is particularly beneficial when making sweet potato fries, as you can achieve that sought-after crispy exterior and tender interior with a fraction of the oil.

One of the standout features of air fryers is their ability to circulate hot air around the food. This technology ensures that every piece is cooked evenly, providing a uniform crispiness that’s hard to achieve with conventional ovens.

Moreover, the speed at which air fryers cook is another major plus. You can have a batch of perfectly cooked sweet potato fries in just 10-12 minutes, making them a convenient option for busy weeknights or last-minute snacks.

Cleanup is a breeze with air fryers, as most components are dishwasher safe. This means less time scrubbing and more time enjoying your delicious creations.

For Weight Watchers followers, the air fryer is an invaluable tool. It allows you to enjoy indulgent-tasting foods without derailing your wellness goals. The ability to make quick, healthy, and tasty meals makes the air fryer a must-have in any kitchen.

This is the air fryer I use and love.

The Ingredients

Sweet Potatoes: I bought two medium-sized sweet potatoes. I peeled my potatoes then used a food scale to weigh them – they were 13 ounces all together. That’s 7 Weight Watchers points.

Reduced-fat Cream Cheese: This was used in the cinnamon dip. It provides a creamy base while keeping it lower in calories.

Sugar-free Maple Syrup: The syrup adds a natural sweetness without the extra sugar.

Cinnamon: Not only does cinnamon enhance the flavor but also brings a warm, aromatic quality to the dip.

I also used salt to season the sweet potato fries and 0 point cooking spray instead of oil.

How to Make Sweet Potato Fries with Cinnamon Dip

Preparing your sweet potatoes begins with a good wash to eliminate any dirt. Whether you choose to peel them or leave the skin on is up to you; keeping the skin adds extra fiber and nutrients.

Next, slice the sweet potatoes into sticks that are about a quarter-inch thick. Consistency in size is crucial for even cooking.

Add the sweet potato fries to a bowl. Spray with cooking spray and season with salt. Use tongs to evenly coat the fries.

Once seasoned, arrange the sweet potato slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Avoid overcrowding the basket, as this can prevent the fries from cooking evenly and achieving the desired crispiness.

If you have a large batch, consider cooking in multiple rounds to ensure each piece gets adequate air circulation.

Cook the fries at 400 degrees F for 10-12 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through the cooking time.

While the fries are cooking you can prepare the cinnamon dip. Begin by softening the cream cheese to room temperature, which makes it easier to mix.

In a medium bowl, combine the cream cheese, sugar-free maple syrup, and cinnamon.

Once all the ingredients are combined, transfer the dip to a serving bowl. If you prefer a slightly thinner consistency, add a small amount of unsweetened almond milk or water, mixing thoroughly until you achieve the desired texture.

Serving Suggestions

For a well-rounded meal, serve your air fryer sweet potato fries alongside grilled chicken or turkey breast.

These fries also make a delightful addition to a fresh green salad, adding both color and crunch to your plate.

If you’re looking to keep things light, pair the fries with a side of coleslaw or a simple cucumber and tomato salad. The crisp vegetables provide a refreshing contrast to the warm, crispy fries.

Consider also incorporating these fries into a brunch spread. They pair wonderfully with scrambled eggs, avocado toast, or even a fruit platter.

The versatility of these air fryer sweet potato fries means they can easily transition from a savory side to a sweet treat, depending on what you serve them with.

Storing and Reheating Leftovers

Leftover air fryer sweet potato fries can be a lifesaver for quick snacks or meals. To keep them fresh, place the fries in an airtight container and store them in the refrigerator for up to three days.

When it’s time to enjoy them again, avoid the microwave, as it tends to make the fries soggy. Instead, use the air fryer to reheat them, setting it to 400°F for a few minutes. This method restores their crispy texture, making them almost as good as fresh.

If you’ve got some of that delicious cinnamon dip left, you can store it in a covered container in the fridge.

Before serving it again, give the dip a good stir to ensure the ingredients are well mixed. If the dip has thickened too much in the fridge, you can easily adjust its consistency by adding a small amount of unsweetened almond milk or water and mixing thoroughly.
