Bolognese Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 medium carrot, finely chopped
  • 1 medium celery rib, finely chopped
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 lb. 96% lean ground beef
  • 28 oz. crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup dry white wine
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup fat-free half and half
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  • Add the ground beef to a large pot. Season with salt and black pepper, break up into small pieces, and cook until slightly browned. Add in the carrots, celery, onion, and garlic.
  • Once the beef is fully cooked, drain any grease.
  • Add in the crushed tomatoes, wine, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  • Bring to a simmer, cover, and cook on low for 30 minutes. Stir occasionally and add chicken broth if the mixture gets too thick.
  • Stir in the half and half at the end of the cooking time. Serve with your favorite pasta.
