Apple Pie Filling

Ingredients

  • 3 apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Braeburn, or Golden Delicious
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup granulated Splenda
  • 3/4-1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch (plus 2 tablespoons of water)

Instructions

  • Peel, core, and dice the apples into large bite-size pieces.

For the Instant Pot:

  • Add the apples to the bottom of a 6 quart Instant Pot, then add 1 cup of water.
  • Stir in the cinnamon and granulated Splenda. Place the lid on the Instant Pot in the locked position and make sure the lever is set to seal.
  • Cook for 2 minutes on manual high pressure, then do a quick release of pressure.
  • In a small bowl mix together the cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water. Pour into the apple mixture while stirring.
  • Continue to stir occasionally until the liquid thickens. Let the filling cool slightly before serving.

For the Stovetop:

  • Add the apples to a saucepan with 3/4 cup of water.
  • Stir in the cinnamon and granulated Splenda. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes
  • In a small bowl, add 1 teaspoon of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water. Mix together, then add it to the apples while stirring.
  • Continue to stir until the liquid thickens. Let the apple pie filling cool slightly before serving.
